What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is sometimes called a cap and is made to completely cover up a badly damaged tooth that has lost a substantial part of its original structure and where an ordinary filling would not be strong enough to protect it. By covering up a tooth right down to the gum line, we can protect it from further damage or infection and a crown will completely restore its appearance.

How Long Does a Dental Crown Last?

A dental crown should last for many years but this does depend on good ongoing dental care. You can help prolong the life of your crown by having regular check-ups and cleanings and by proper brushing and flossing.

How Much Does a Dental Crown Cost?

The cost of your dental crown will depend on the materials chosen for its fabrication. The cost is approximately $1600.

What is a Dental Bridge?

If you have one or more teeth missing in a row, we may be able to use a dental bridge to replace them. To have a dental bridge, the teeth adjacent to the gap must be strong and healthy as they must be reshaped and crowned. These teeth are called abutment teeth and are attached to replacement teeth, and each replacement tooth is called a pontic. This creates a strong and stable restoration that is cemented firmly in place.

Why Should I Get a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a quick and cost-effective solution for replacing missing teeth that can be made and fitted in just a few weeks. Modern bridges look very natural and when properly cared for will last for years. This treatment can be a good choice if the abutment teeth would benefit from being crowned and where they may already have large fillings or damage, or are oddly shaped or discoloured.

At Dental Serenity we offer crown and bridge solutions to achieve the absolute functional and aesthetic restoration of your smile. Utilising the best possible products and procedures we can provide you with a long-term treatment option to correct the many problems associated with broken down, weak and missing teeth.

Dental Crowns
In many situations a crown will offer the best available protection for your tooth. By completely encasing a tooth it can prevent further damage and future decay, ensuring an excellent long-term solution.

Crowns are often recommended following a root canal treatment as following this procedure your tooth may have less tooth structure and have a greater risk of fracture. After investing time and effort in a root canal procedure it is often a wise choice to protect it further with a dental crown.

Dental crowns are made from a variety of materials. In brief we tend to use either pressed ceramic baked to Zirconium Oxide for a crown containing no metal, or ceramic baked to a gold alloy crown. Occasionally we use full gold crowns in areas we need thinner preparation of the tooth. Individually fabricated and contoured, the crown will fit precisely within your mouth; and aligned correctly with the neighbouring and opposing teeth. The porcelain material comes in a many number of shades and offers a natural tooth-like translucency to assist in creating a natural looking result.

In some cases patients even choose to crown teeth that are oddly shaped or over erupted, this can improve the alignment and balance of their smile.

Long lasting and closely colour matched using the latest porcelain materials, a crown may be the answer that you are looking for when it comes to restoring a tooth.

To ensure that perfect result our dental team will first conduct a thorough examination from which a tailored treatment plan is developed. Similar to other restorative procedures, receiving a crown will often require two appointment visits.

Your first appointment will involve the careful preparation of your tooth. An impression mould of your teeth is taken, from which your replacement teeth are made. A temporary crown may be secured while your permanent one is being made at our preferred dental laboratory, sculpting of your replacement teeth will take between 1 – 2 weeks.

At your following appointment, any temporary teeth that were placed are then removed and your new permanent teeth secured with specially developed dental adhesive and polished to a natural looking finish.

Dental Bridges
A Dental Bridge is an excellent option to replace one or more missing teeth using a non-surgical approach. By utilising the teeth either side of the space, we are able to create a prosthetic appliance to fill the gap. By bridging this gap and using the neighbouring teeth as anchors, we can create a natural looking tooth shaped insert.

Dental Bridges can restore optimal function. By replacing missing teeth you can chew more efficiently and the permanent nature of a bridge can keep the remaining teeth from drifting and over erupting out of their natural positions.

We utilise full Zirconia bridges or a combination of metal and ceramic technology for all of our bridgework.

Whether you are undertaking either crown or bridge treatment, you can be sure of the most favorable and optimal result. Crown and bridge solutions are known to be a premium and long lasting solution when it comes to the restoration of your smile.
