Veneers Maroubra

Veneers in MaroubraWhat is a Veneer?

A veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain or tooth coloured composite resin that is applied to the front surface of a tooth. It is used to change and improve the overall appearance of a tooth. With a porcelain veneer, our dentist in Maroubra will usually need to prepare your tooth by removing a thin layer of tooth enamel. This is done to ensure the new veneer doesn’t look and feel too bulky as it needs to be a minimum thickness of approximately 0.5mm. Your tooth is prepared using local anaesthetic to prevent any discomfort. Once prepared, our dentist will take an impression of the tooth which is used by our dental laboratory to make your new veneer. It typically takes two weeks to custom-make a veneer and in the meantime your tooth will be protected with a temporary veneer. The veneer is then fitted and bonded onto your tooth at your next visit. Composite veneers are quicker to place as the composite is applied directly to the tooth in our dental practice. It is hardened, shaped and polished in a single visit. With a composite veneer, less tooth preparation may be necessary.

How Long Will My Veneers Last?

Porcelain veneers can last ten years or more, depending on your lifestyle habits. Regular check-ups and cleanings will help prolong their life. Composite veneers will need replacing more frequently as they can chip more easily and may become stained after a few years.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The cost of a veneer can range from $650-1400, depending on your choice of treatment. While composite resin veneers are less expensive, the potential longevity of porcelain veneers can make them a worthwhile, long-term option.

Resin Veneers
Resin Veneers use materials that match the shade, translucency and texture of your teeth. The resin material is applied to your teeth and sculpted to cover or replace the problem area. Resin veneers allow us to fill gaps between the teeth and remove spots, chips, and discolorations.

ADVANTAGES: Resin Veneers are a one-visit procedure, in some cases requiring no anaesthetic. The resin material is applied to the outside of the tooth creating a finish to natural tooth.

DISADVANTAGES: Although initially less expensive than ceramic veneers, resin veneers tend to break down and discolour in several years and will need replacing. It is for this reason that ceramic veneers are seen as more cost effective over time.
