Daily Oral Hygiene
At Dental Serenity, preventive care is a major part of our practice philosophy and we aim to teach our patients about the many benefits of preventing oral health problems.
An effective daily oral care routine is very important to maintain your dental health; the effectiveness of this routine is significant in helping to avoid extensive dental treatments in the future. Early prevention is advantageous as advanced bone loss from periodontal disease is usually irreversible. Your gums and jaw bone are the foundations for your teeth, so if your gums are not properly maintained, gum diseases such as Gingivitis and Periodontitis can occur.
Positive oral health is easy to achieve and following a daily routine that includes these main steps will reduce the likelihood of you developing tooth decay or gum disease:
- Brushing your teeth gently at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristled toothbrush. You should pay particular attention to the gum areas where plaque is known to develop.
- Gentle flossing between the teeth at least once a day to remove any accumulated food or plaque.
- Using a mouthwash regularly can be a useful addition to brushing, especially if you floss infrequently. Despite some misguided media attention, there are no risks of using mouthwashes. However not all mouthwashes are equally effective, as such we recommend particular rinses on an individual basis.
